Living seed - fixed in 3.0.3

Cheroba on the beta server Lich King asked:

..if my target is brought up to full health before the next hit after living seed is placed on a target...they get zero healing, wastes the seed, and then take damage. How is that effective? Earth shield was awesome in that it provided an extra buffer...I thought that was the point of living seed.

GC comes to the rescue with this welcome news:

This part should be fixed in the 3.0.3 build -- it should be consistent with Earth Shield. I believe we even hotfixed it. Can anyone confirm?

The part about it being effective healing is by design.

I think we all knew they would have to fix it, it was a terrible bug... ugh.

Now if we can just convince GC that we neeeeeeed Replenish put on Wild Growth... *bats lashes*

Compensation for 3.0 instability

Nethaera wrote:

Since the release of the latest patch, Echoes of Doom, we have gone through a series of optimizations in order to increase overall game performance. We've seen steady, stable populations and a flurry of activity and excitement during the Hallow's End event and the latest rumblings of zombie attacks. It's been an exciting time for us as we draw closer to the release of our second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

We've reached a point where we feel we can now accurately evaluate the events since the patch release. Though overall downtime has been minimal, players have experienced latency, inaccessible instances, and general frustrations. We are therefore announcing that we will be issuing compensation to accounts in all realms in the US, Oceanic, and Latin American regions. Accounts that are currently active and in good standing will be credited with an additional three days of game time.

We would like to thank you for your patience during this time and look forward to seeing you in game!

Actual downtime has been minimal, but it's great that they are acknowledging that it was often impossible to get into (or out of) raids and instances during that time. Thumbs up!

Finally - 8/8

FINALLY. Finally, after wearing the same boots from Hyjal since January, Felmyst finally gave me her booties.

I usually only care about loot that will help my raid team get further - it's very rare for me to covet gear for the looks, prestige, etc. Sure, we all like having shiny purples and having people admire them, and while I do prefer to look nice, my priority is always to improve my gear for my team, not really for me.

I have never had a full set of anything though - I only ever got a couple of pieces of Cenarion, one piece of Stormrage, and I never had a chance at Dreamwalker. Even the dungeon sets eluded me. I had T4 antlers, T5 shoulders and pants, but never a full set.

Finishing my Tier 6 set was what I really wanted to do before WotLK, and I'm so glad I did it - and just in time. I think I earned it this year.

Bad tree. Bad.

I have a confession.

Fact: Trash healing in Sunwell with the mob nerfs and player buffs is now ridiculously easy. Read: dull.

Fact: I use Grid + mouseover macros for point-and-shoot healing. It means I can switch targets fast without.. well, switching targets. My mouse can zip over my Grid frames and heal really fast, pew pew. No mouse clicking required. If you haven't tried mouseover macros for healing, you're doing yourself a disservice.

ANYWAY..

Confession: in Sunwell last night, during a humanoid pull with constant/heavy raid damage, I was pretty bored. Instead of being a good tree and doing things properly, I drew swirlies on Grid with my mouse while rapidly punching my Wild Growth button. Swirlies and squiggles and circles and scribbles - think toddler with fingerpaints. All while mashing that WG blindly.

The result? (other than a screen full of SCT events..)

Hitting 19 people at once and healing for over 9500 in one second of Wild Growth ticks.

>_>

Naughty.

Rats and fish

I came home from work today and found that one of my pet rats, Titch, had died suddenly. She was the youngest of my rats and showed no signs of being ill so it was a big shock and very upsetting. She was such a cheeky little sweetheart and I will miss her very much. I'm a sad panda today.

So I did what I usually do when I am stressed or upset - I fished. I like to throw myself into fishing - you can really zone out, I find it quite cathartic.

I figured I would cross off a few more fishing achievements to keep myself busy. I finished off The Scavenger, and then thought I would go to Stormwind for The Fishing Diplomat, and then I would head to Ironforge to try for Old Ironjaw. Unfortunately I forgot one vital thing: the Stormwind guards are now level 75 and see through my untalented kitty stealth from a million miles away.

I sprinted and threw myself off the bridge leading into Stormwind, healed up and swam under the archways. Here's a tip for those of you trying to do the Diplomat - fishing under those archways (some of them have land inside) counts as being in Stormwind, and you will get credit for the achievement. This saves you having to run into the city.

Sadly I think I will have to wait until 80 to try for Ironjaw. I *could* do a bunch of corpse runs into the city, but that really doesn't appeal, especially since there is no fast way to get to Ironforge should I get tired and decide to try again another day. So instead I think I will put that achievement on hold until I can sneak into the city again.

I did, however, manage to fish up Old Crafty! But for some reason the game wouldn't let me loot him :( I got the achievement, but I still really wanted him in my bank. I put in a ticket but it wasn't answered before the servers went down. I hope the GMs send him to me in the mail.

For now, I'll keep plugging away at the 1000 fish achievement and trying to catch one of the rare fish for One That Didn't Get Away. So many of my alts have these rare fish - but now that I want to fish one up, I'm not having any luck. But... that's okay, in fact I probably prefer it that way, because I just love to sit and fish for hours. I'll likely be slightly disappointed when I've finished all of the fishing achievements.

I'm looking forward to trying for the sewer rat from Dalaran - I love my ratties.

Bye Titchy. <3

Guide: 100 cooking recipes

Today I spent some time finishing off my Sous Chef achievement (learn 100 cooking recipes). I had no idea there were so many Alliance BOE recipes to grab - and most of them from one vendor in Stormwind! I sent my little NE warrior off to collect them for me while I made a list of the others that I needed. My guildies laughed at me because once again I had a spreadsheet.. but a couple asked me to share what I had, so I thought I would put a list together (similar to my post on 50 mounts) to make it a little easier for people to find the recipes they might be missing.

I've tried to arrange them in some semblance of an order. I've separated them into faction recipes, so you know which ones to search the AH for (or send an alt to fetch for you) and which ones you can easily find on a vendor (no more paying 10g on the AH for a 15s recipe). Also, the majority of quested recipes are actually BOE, so they may turn up on the AH also (or, once again, you could have another character grab them for you). I've also tried to arrange them by zone/town where I can, to make it a little faster, but sometimes recipes are sold in various places so you may need to check wowhead. Where a vendor or quest is a link, I have linked back to the wowhead info to speed things up for you.

The below list has 113 recipes.

Happy cooking!

TBJ - as seen on Google

Lusyel of EU-Norgannon kindly pointed out that my 50 mount guide is the first thing that pops up in Google if you search for "how to get 50 mounts". Thanks Lusyel - I have such a silly grin on my face now. I'm winning on Google meters whee!

This is no doubt thanks to Phae of Resto4Life mentioning me on her wonderful site, and as a result I've had a bunch of visitors in the last couple of days.

Thank you to everyone who has sent me compliments and encouragement - especially those of you who took the time chat to me in-game.

Impatiently waiting for WotLK so I can write more!

Squashling and helm now also from treat bags!

Time to farm those hourly trick or treats - Helms and Squashlings now come from treat bags and fire-fighting jack-o-lantern rewards as well!

It has been confirmed by Blizzard that this is an intended change.

I might get my Squashling after all! :)

Why oh why didn't I trick or treat before I left for work... *fidgets impatiently*

Getting the hang of Wild Growth

I'm definitely getting the hang of using Wild Growth in my rotations. Here's tonight's Felmyst:

I was 4th on Twins, but spent most of my time spamming on the warlock, so my rotation wasn't so great in terms of weaving in WGs. I did it when I could, but sometimes it was difficult. Nature's Splendor would probably make a difference because my hots could tick for longer and allow me more time for other spells. As "expensive" as GotEM is, I'm definitely grateful for anything that lets me squeeze more casts into my rotation.

It still feels spammy and brainless on trash, but on Felmyst and Twins, WG is definitely a very deliberate and proactive heal. I got used to knowing when the melee were going to take damage, for example, and would throw WG onto them as it happened. That feels pretty good - knowing that you're not just mashing WG and hoping it will land, but actually predicting where to put it next, watching the damage land, and seeing them tick back up straight away. Very satisfying. I'm really looking forward to learning new fights and working out a rotation for each.

If only they would fix the AI..

Swift Flight Form trainable at level 71

From the 3.03 patch notes:

The Swift Flight Form is now available on the trainer at level 71, requiring 300 riding skill, and Flight Form learned.

Translation: druids will no longer need to do the quest chain and Heroic Sethekk Halls to get their Swift Flight Form. You will, of course, still need to pay 5000g to receive your 300 riding skill; they are simply removing the requirement for druids to do a quest chain in addition.

I'm slightly confused as to the implications for people wanting to obtain the raven mount in future - will Anzu only be summonable now by TBC druids who finished their quest back in the day? I suspect people will still want to try for this mount in WotLK so I will be interested to see whether the quest line stays - is it possible they will leave it in as a stand-alone quest simply to reward the druid with the ability to summon the boss (rather than Swift Flight Form being the end reward), or will it be scrapped entirely?

I really hope they keep the quest chain in the game. It is such a fun series of quests - it really challenges you to use all of your abilities and forms. Bear tanking, kitty interrupts, healing, shifting into flight form before you go splat, spamming your skylaz0rs - the lot. I've done it twice and I wish I could repeat it, because it really is a blast.

There should be more class-specific quests like this in the game.

Twins, M'uru - back on top!

I'm so happy - we killed Twins (ridiculously easy fight) and then headed to M'uru. We had a lot of attempts on him, and on all of the longer attempts (~5mil damage) I was either second or sometimes first on the healing meters.

I don't really care at this point whether I "win" on meters or not - I'm just thrilled that we will probably get to kill KJ before WotLK. I had resigned myself to not even killing Felmyst. I have to admit though that now we're here, and I have the reports, it is a huge relief to be back up at the top of the meters after being SO low in BT and Hyjal (sometimes dead last, ugh).

Lifebloom still made up the majority of my healing, rolling on two tanks (with rejuv), and Wild Growth second after that. That's exactly the kind of healing I would love to do in WotLK - still maintaining a buffer of HoTs on a tank (or tanks), but tossing group heals between refreshes. I really have my fingers crossed that this kind of fight will be common - I love being a hybrid tank and raid healer.

I loved it, I'm so happy now!

Wishlist: Attunement checklist

Something that I would really like to see implemented, perhaps as part of the achievement interface, is a way to track your attunements and possibly your unfinished quest chains.

For example, in the past I have on several occasions abandoned a chain part-way through (eg Onyxia, Karazhan, Arcatraz) because I needed the space in my quest log and intended to pick the chain up again later. Predictably, I would then forget which stage of the quest I was at, grr.

And if you have a few alts, like me, sometimes it's hard to remember whether you ever got around to becoming attuned to BWL or Naxx or Onyxia or whatever (again, sometimes the attunements are removed, but I'm sure you see what I'm getting at).

I think it would be wonderful if there could be an Attunements tab in your achievements, showing all of the attunements you have completed (even if they were later removed), plus the ones you have yet to complete (grey). Instead of wondering whether you're attuned for something, you could just look up your attunements list and know for certain. Each attunement could then drop down to show which parts of the quest chain you had completed, and the last stage that you were at (it wouldn't show the parts that you are yet to complete because that would be cheating a bit - well, kinda - wowhead shows those parts anyway). Just so you could say, "ah yes, I remember now, I killed that dragon and collected the Scepter of Awesome, then I was up to the part where I talk to that guy at the bottom of the lake" and pick it back up from there.

There are, of course, druid-specific benefits: how many of us decided to go back for our Aquatic form or Swift Flight Form at a later date? I completed most of the flight form chain but didn't do Heroic Sethekk for months (laziness). It would have been nice to be able to open up a window and check which part I had to go back and do.

Wouldn't that be nifty? Not only for the convenience of being able to finally pick things up and finish them, but also so that you could go and complete all of the attunements that don't necessarily finish with a key in your keyring. Just to check them off your list. That would be a bonus to achievement-nuts who like to complete everything and tie up loose ends.

How to get 50 mounts before WotLK

Idling in Shattrath on my shiny new Albino Drake, I get a lot of people asking where it came from (the intended outcome!) as well as a lot of guildies racing to try to get one for themselves. I spent a lot of time pre-patch compiling a list of all the mounts that I had access to, and then set about buying, grinding, pvping, and otherwise working towards my 50 total. The list of mounts available in the game is quite long, and since not everyone can ride every mount, the numbers available to each person can vary by quite a lot. It can be quite confusing to work out which mounts you have access to, and which ones you're still missing.

So I thought I would share this information, in case people are still chasing their 50 mounts and need to know what their options are. For general info on mounts, visit the official WoW site - it will tell you where to buy your faction's mounts, for example, which I haven't outlined here.

Steps to collect 50 mounts for Leading the Cavalry

1. Buy your own faction's mounts (including the level 30 versions)
2. Buy mounts from the other races of your faction
3. Buy normal flying mounts and epic flying mounts
4. Grind Netherwing and Sha'tari Skyguard rep for drakes and rays
5. Grind Mag'har/Kurenai rep for Talbuks
6. Grind rep with Cenarion Expedition for the Hippogryph (1600g)
7. PvP - battlegrounds, Halaa
8. If you're still short - try some of the extras listed below.

So basically, unless you're a Tauren, you have the ability to buy, grind, or PvP your way to 50 mounts. You'll need to work towards them - through rep grinds, a lot of PvP, and earning some money (5000g for epic riding skill, the gold required for the vendor mounts, and the 1600g Hippogryph), but these are basically the "easiest" mounts to acquire without having to deal with RNG in instances and raids. NOTE: You can buy all 6 Netherwing Drakes; the first comes after you complete the final quest, but the other 5 can be purchased back on Netherwing Ledge from Drake Dealer Hurlunk.

If you still don't have enough, here are some extra options:
